Madonna & Child ~ Christ’s Love

An icon featuring an image of the Mother Mary absorbed. It was created using the image transfer technique on fine wood and delicately enhanced with touches of acrylic and watercolour paint. Mary is depicted wearing a red gown—a traditional symbol of Christ’s sacrifice, honoured as the highest expression of God’s love. The baby Jesus is shown naked and pure, embodying innocence and divinity. The gold background symbolizes the divine light of God. The work also features an antique nail on the reverse, serving as a reminder of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. Icons of this style date back to the Byzantine Empire (330 to 1453 AD) and early Renaissance era. These have been a central feature of Eastern Orthodox, Greek, and Slavic Christianity. The art of ‘writing an icon’ is considered a spiritual discipline. The term ‘write’ is used because they are meant to be Scripture in visual form.
